Playing with light
"Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it silll." -- Dorothea Lange

I love contrast in black and white protraits, more influence from Dorothea Lange. I shot this for an assignment on relationships. These girls are 10 and 13 and their sisters. There are about 90 pictures from this shoot, and about 30 scanned -- but this one is my favorite. I did this shoot about two months ago, in the height of fall.

The Product of Artistic Frustration
How to have an unsuccessful photoshoot:
- Enlist one three-year old girl
- Bribe said girl with chocolate and finger paints, while you get ready to shoot.
- Spend half a hour dealing (cleaning up one very sticky three year old) with the consequences of that bribe.
- Chase three year old around the house for a hour with the camera set to action.
Frustratedly download about 50 blurry photos.
I decided it would be horrible to go back to school without a decent shoot from this weekend. So, I begrudgingly went out and shot some pictures of leaves. It was more of an exercise practicing focus than anything.

Currently inspired by...
Old negatives from my great aunt. We found boxes with tons in them. I'm in love with how authenic the expressions of the people in the pictures are. I'm hoping to do a film series inspired by them in the near future.
